About

Megan Maksimovich Goodenough

Megan’s love of writing and books started with her first lessons as a child. Asking for extra practice sheets when learning cursive and always choosing to make illustrated books whenever the opotunity arose.

This developed into a formal study at art school of illuminated manuscripts and historical writing in 1998. After further years of self-study she began to seek out mentorship in calligraphy, with her first exposure to trained calligraphers and instruction at conferences and workshops around Canada, US and England in 2011.

A few years later Megan began teaching beginners’ courses and found that a part of her calling was in the contributing to the legacy of writing with the Latin alphabet, and the dissemination of how it has, and could be, taught. As well as the inherent benefits of this meditative craft, Megan has a deep respect and fascination with the skillful art of communication.

In 2017, she finally found a course with the breadth she’d been looking for in Ewan Clayton’s “Long-Course”. at his studio in Brighton, UK. At the end of the three months, she mustered the nerve to ask to be his apprentice.

Whilst continuing her apprenticeship, Megan has been assiting Ewan since 2018 in delivering his courses at & from the studio on Sillwood Road, facilitating guest intructors, as well as teaching herself.

Megan’s love of letters, however they’re made, wherever they manifest, has only increased in devotion over time. Travelling to meet and learn from stonecarvers, type designers, printmakers, bookbinders, signwiriters, illuminators, graffiti artists, paper makers, has helped hone and inform her craft and teaching.
